Re: What do sheep eat?
Sheep will be fine on pasture for at least 6 months before moving them, due to the possibility of parasitic build-up after that, but as long as they have enough pasture they will be good. About an acre of good pasture will support 5 sheep. But if you are thinking about putting them on your front lawn, then the answer is no.
When the climate is cold and they don't have access to good pasture, they you will need to give them hay, some corn and even roots and winter greens. With supplementary feed they will need 2kgs of hay each if you are just giving them hay. If you add corn, roots or greens to their diet, then reduce the hay intake accordingly as you don't want them to get too fat during the winter as they will have trouble lambing in the spring.
