Looking to join the industy!

Hello all, I am very excited to join this forum. Currently I am studying introductory agricultural courses at my university and in a few years I hope to be working in the industry. One of the reason I joined this forum is for its great user base (I've read through numerous posts and people seem legitimately friendly); as a result I hope you all can be helpful with my first ever question here. I was recently in a class where the prof was going through obscure farm objects/tools and I failed to identify one of those objects. It is about a two inch metal shaft with two plastic barrel shaped end caps. I am very curious as how this might be used. I hope I can get an answer from you guys. Thank you very much.
